Stewardship Week
Stewardship week is held the last week of April and Shavano encourages the celebration by offering supplies and presentations to the Elementary Schools in our district. Each presentation is done using an EnviroScape model, teaching the importance of conserving our natural resources. It gives the students a good visual of how easily our soil is washed away along with other contaminants into our water system.

Natural Resource Festival
We have been educating students at the 4th Grade Natural Resource Festival for twenty-six years. The festival is a one day event that all 539 4th grade students in the RE1J school district attend. There are approximately forty-six presenters representing twenty different organizations presenting at thirty different stations. The students walk away with a vast knowledge of our natural resources and conservation.

Camp Rocky
Shavano CD sponsors a local student each year to attend Camp Rocky. Camp Rocky is an educational, week-long, residential camp for 14-19 year old youth who enjoy the outdoors and are interested in natural resources.

The Camp is located outside Divide, Colorado.  Campers learn about their environment through hands-on experiences and team building.  Each year, new and returning students at Camp Rocky choose one of the following resource fields for their area of focus:
            --Rangeland Science               --Forestry Management
--Soil and Water Science        --Fish and Wildlife Management

Camp Rocky is sponsored by the Colorado Association of Conservation Districts, with the help of other natural resource Conservation partners.

Cimarron Ridge Ranch 4th Grade Field Day
Ridgway and Ouray 4th graders visit Cimarron Ridge Ranch each fall to learn ranch operations and conservation.
